Natalia Duco Video Scandal: Leaked Party Footage Leads to Resignation of Minister and Andrés Otero
A video showing a private celebration involving former Chilean Sports Minister Natalia Duco has triggered a political controversy that ended with the resignations of both Duco and Sports Undersecretary Andrés Otero.
The controversy centers on the alleged use of a government vehicle to attend a gathering on April 23. The Sports Ministry had described the event to Chile’s Comptroller’s Office as a “work meeting.” However, footage later published by La Tercera showed a gathering involving an asado, karaoke and drinks, contradicting the characterization of the event as simply a work meeting.
Otero had signed the response sent to the Comptroller defending the use of the official vehicle. His direct administrative involvement in the matter was cited as a reason for his departure alongside Duco.
President José Antonio Kast accepted both resignations, which became effective Friday, August 14, 2026. Duco had served as Sports Minister for approximately five months.
The Comptroller’s investigation is still expected to determine whether the government vehicle was used improperly. Therefore, while the video contributed to the political fallout and the resignations, the legality of the vehicle’s use remains a matter for the investigation.
