Second Suspect Captured in Yorleni Alas Case: What Happened to the Young Woman in Cortés?
Honduran authorities have captured a second suspect in the investigation into the death of Yorleni Melissa Alas, an 18-year-old woman who disappeared in Puerto Cortés, Cortés.
The suspect was identified as Carlos Adel Pérez Montes, 27, who was arrested on August 14 during a police operation in the La Posona neighborhood of Puerto Cortés. Authorities say he had an outstanding warrant for alleged aggravated femicide and aggravated robbery in connection with Yorleni’s case.
Yorleni disappeared on May 4, 2026, after leaving her first day of work near the municipal beach. Investigators later found human remains in Puerto Cortés, and forensic authorities confirmed that they belonged to Yorleni.
Another man, Henry Joseph Turcios Hernández, had previously been detained in connection with the case involving Yorleni’s sister. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Yorleni’s disappearance and death and the alleged roles of the suspects.
The latest arrest represents a significant development in a case that has caused widespread concern in Honduras, but the suspects remain presumed innocent unless convicted by a court.
