“Why Not?” Mabel Becomes a Mother at 62 and Reveals How She Got Pregnant
Mabel, a woman from San Nicolás, Argentina, has made headlines after becoming a first-time mother at 62 years old. She gave birth to her son David on August 12, 2026, at Hospital San Felipe. The baby was delivered by cesarean section, weighed 2.75 kilograms (6.06 pounds) and was reported to be healthy.
Mabel said becoming a mother had always been her dream. Because of her age, she turned to in-vitro fertilization (IVF) with reproductive-medicine specialist Dr. Matías Colabianchi in Rosario. She described the pregnancy as “perfect” and said she felt well after giving birth.
Her obstetrician, Dr. Romina Ruffini, said the pregnancy progressed normally and that Mabel followed her medical care and checkups throughout the nine months.
The case is considered exceptional in Argentina. There is no official national registry establishing the oldest woman to give birth, but local reporting says no previous documented Argentine case has involved a first-time mother aged 62 or older.
Mabel’s story has attracted attention not only because of her age but because of the way she described her decision: “I had a healthy uterus, so I thought: Why not?”
